Detailed Itinerary
Day 01: Agra - Bharatpur
After Breakfast drive to Bharatpur for bird sighting. Each year before the arrival of winter, thousands of birds migrate from the frozen waters of Siberia, Tibet, Mongolia and Eastern Europe to India. One of the best destinations for these birds is the marsh of Bharatpur lying between Agra and Jaipur in the north-western part of India. The protected area of about 29 square km is now the famous Keoladeo Ghana National Park. The reserve derives its name (Keoladeo) from a temple devoted to Lord Shiva which is situated in the park. En route visit Fatehpur Sikri, built by Emperor Akbar. Fatehpur Sikri known as the deserted city of the Mughals was built at the orders of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. While Akbar himself was illiterate, he took the keen interest in literature, architecture and arts and the buildings at Fatehpur Sikri. Pay special interest as the guide unfolds the mystery of this great city that was abandoned by the Mughals. Arrive Bharatpur and check in at the hotel. Evening enjoys exploring Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary through an eco-friendly cycle Rickshaw ride, accompanied by a naturalist. Return to the hotel in the evening for overnight stay. Day 02: Bharatpur – Fatehpur Sikri - Agra by surface (Distance: Approx 55 kms; Driving Time: Approx 1 ½ hours)
Morning visits the bird sanctuary, a rickshaw ride through this sanctuary is an unforgettable experience. Most parts of the sanctuary are accessible on a bicycles or rickshaws. You will get to see birds coming from all over the world, some of the rarest species including the Siberian crane, which flies all the way from Siberia every year to spend their winter here. Bharatpur is home to 366 bird species, 379 floral species, 50 species of fish, 13 species of snakes, 5 species of lizards, 7 amphibian species,7 turtle species, and a variety of other invertebrates. Return to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, proceed to visit Lohagarh fort – one of the strongest forts in India, this is the only fort built by the Jat Rulers in India. Jat Raja Surajmal was one of the most feared Chieftains in this part of the country, as he was successful in defeating both the Mughals and Britishers, two victory towers, Jawahar Burj and Fateh Burjstands as a tall testimony to the same. Also, visit the Govt Museum which displays articles like weapons and safety shields. Antiques such as hunted animals, wood articles, jewellery boxes and ornaments are also displayed here. Later check out of the hotel and proceed to onward destination. (B)
